Local Outreach Ministries
God blesses us at St. Andrew with many opportunities to do local outreach ministry, like the Habitat for Humanity construction projects, pictured above.
You are invited to walk the neighborhoods Saturdays as we visit with our neighbors, asking them about their faith background and inviting them (if they don't have a church home and are not attending it) to come to worship God with us at St. Andrew.
Join us for our monthly Mission and Justice Team meeting, as we advocate for local and global ministries. We meet on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
Every "4th" Sunday of the month we have an offering of "loose change and large checks" for the ELCA world hunger appeal. Jesus was/is "4" the poor and hungry and so are we. Our offering "plates" are two halves of a globe.
Supporting the Intercommunity Counseling Center. We are one of its supporting churches and its Director Dr. Rebecca Eberle-Romberger and her family are members of St. Andrew. Two other of our members, John and Joy Hoffman service on the Board of Directors.
Helping people in Whittier who are homeless. We are now supporting and helping at the Cold-weather shelter and at First Day.
Donating food to our food basket each Sunday. We deliver the food to the Interfaith Food Center.
Supporting the Interfaith Food Center right around the corner from us, 14545 Leffingwell. There over 1100 families are served each week and 200 meals provided for the homeless each week. More volunteers are always needed there. Call 562-903-1478 to learn more how to help.
We host the Orange County Community Development Council once a month, in which they give about 300 families boxes of food to those who qualify, according to their income.
Providing food baskets for the needy at holiday times.
We serve a Thanksgiving meal to the needy in our community the Saturday before Thanksgiving Day, along with hosting a health fair that day.
Our WAM group (Women in Action and Mission) make hundred of quilts for Lutheran World Relief. This group meets every Thursday at noon.
St. Andrew has a Good Samaritan Fund that the pastors are able to use to help our families who are in financial crisis.
Many people in the congregation volunteer in the community at various hospitals, nursing homes, Meals on Wheels and social service centers.
These are all ways of serving and meeting Christ in our neighbor.
We encourage each person and each group in our congregation to be involved in one or more of these (and other) local ministries.
"We love because God first loved us."
